Leanne Schaefer

A former player and assistant at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio, Leanne Schaefer is in her second season at Kenyon College, having joined the program in the summer of 2018. A year ago, she helped Head Coach Kendra Mosher lead the Ladies to a 16-12 record and fourth-place mark in the North Coast Athletic Conference.

Schaefer came to Kenyon with collegiate, high school and club coaching experience. After graduating from Capital in 2013 with a degree in history, she went on to work at both Bexley High School and Elite Volleyball. At Bexley, she served as an assistant coach for one season (2015). At Elite, a club program, she was an assistant coach for a 16 American-level team (2015). She advanced to head coach of a 15 America team (2016) and then took over a 14 National team (2017).

During the 2016 season, she returned to Capital to serve as the Crusaders assistant coach under Head Coach Leah Farrell. She helped out the program by creating practice plans, recruiting in the Columbus area, analyzing game film and scouting opponents, among other tasks.

Extending her coaching spectrum to clinics and lessons, Schaefer also worked, for the last 15 months, at Integrity Athletics, where she trained individuals and groups in various volleyball skills.

During her playing days at Capital, Schaefer was a four-year starting middle blocker/opposite hitter. She led the team in blocks during both her junior and senior seasons and also led the team in hitting percentage and collected the Coach’s Award as a senior. Overall, she played in 127 career matches and racked up career totals that included 759 kills and 296 blocks.
