GAMBIER, Ohio – A return to the win column eluded the Kenyon College women's volleyball team again Wednesday night in Gambier. The Ladies were tough on the College of Wooster, but ultimately suffered a 3-0 setback for their sixth-straight loss.
Kenyon and Wooster played a nip-and-tuck first set that went to the Scots, 25-20, after they put together a late run. The Ladies (3-13, 1-4 North Coast Athletic Conference) nearly had the second set in hand with a 23-18 lead, but came up empty when Wooster scored eight of the final nine points for a 26-24 decision. Although it could have been a deflating defeat, Kenyon maintained its composure and went point-for-point with Wooster early in the third set. Once the Scots (13-9, 2-4 NCAC) managed to tip the scales in their favor, they didn't look back and sealed the win by a 25-19 margin.
For the second-straight match, junior
Sierra DeLeon pounded down 16 kills to lead the team. With only one error in 33 chances, she amassed a season-best .455 hitting percentage. DeLeon also aced a pair of serves for good measure.
Junior
Mary Jo Scott was a presence on both sides of the ball with nine kills and 15 digs. Sophomore
Hannah Shank was another jack-of-all-trades with 22 assists, two kills and seven digs. Freshman libero
McKenzie Mitchell set the pace defensively with a game-high 21 digs.
The Ladies hit the road on Saturday to participate in a tri-match at Allegheny College with the Gators and Messiah College.
