Kenyon comes up empty at Allegheny tri-match

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MEADVILLE, Pa. – Junior Sierra DeLeon continued to her strong performance on the attack for the Kenyon College volleyball team Saturday at Allegheny College, but wins remained elusive for the Ladies nonetheless. Despite DeLeon's 27 kills, Kenyon dropped both ends of its tri-match to the host Gators, 3-1, and Messiah College, 3-0.

DeLeon did most of her damage in the four-set loss to Allegheny (25-17, 17-25, 25-17, 25-18) when she finished off 18 points. She added nine more in the straight-set defeat versus the 17-7 Falcons (25-18, 25-22, 25-18). She now has 217 kills for the season, which places her among the top ten attackers in the North Coast Athletic Conference.

Junior Mary Jo Scott supported DeLeon with 19 kills across the two matches and sophomore Kaitlyn Power pounded down a dozen balls. Setter Hannah Shank  also a sophomore, kept the offense flowing with a total of 57 assists.

Freshman Shannon Wright began her afternoon with a season-high 13 digs against Allegheny (6-18, 2-4 NCAC) and finished with 17 on the day. Fellow freshman McKenzie Mitchell paced the defense with 21 total digs with Scott adding 18.

The Ladies' (3-15, 1-5 NCAC) next contest has huge postseason ramifications. Kenyon visits Oberlin College (7-13, 0-6 NCAC) Friday night at 7 p.m. with the winner moving to the inside track for the eighth and final spot in the upcoming NCAC tournament.
