Lords blank Little Giants in season finale

Box Score
Andrew Parmelee
GAMBIER, Ohio (October 29, 2011) A goal from Andrew Parmelee in the game's 36th minute gave the Kenyon College Lords soccer team a 1-0 victory over the visiting Wabash College Little Giants. The Saturday afternoon game was the last of the season for the Lords, who finished with a 7-8-2 overall record and a 4-4-1 North Coast Athletic Conference record.

Kenyon outshot Wabash 20-12 and had several great opportunities to score, but only Parmelee's shot found the back of the Wabash net. That goal came after an initial shot by junior J.J. Jemison. Jemison's shot hit the crossbar and ricocheted back out to Parmelee, a sophomore. Parmelee was caught off guard, but composed himself, worked around the Wabash goalkeeper and booted in the goal, his third of the season.

In the Kenyon net, senior goalkeeper Tyler Schatz got the start, played a little more than 80 minutes and made two saves. Fellow senior Jared Kunze finished off the game and preserved the win with a remarkable save. With Wabash's Femi Oluyedun streaking down the right side, Kunze stepped toward him to cut off the angle. Oluyedun let loose with a shot and Kunze got an arm on it to send it over the top of the crossbar.

The shutout win was the Lords' sixth of the season. The team's defensive unit ended up allowing just 18 goals in 17 games for a tidy 1.03 goals against average.

Parmelee's goal tied him with fellow sophomore Alistair Flynn and senior Keith Dangarembwa for the team lead.

The Little Giants concluded their season with an 8-9-2 overall record and a 3-6-0 mark in conference competition.
