GAMBIER, Ohio – The Kenyon College Ladies volleyball team jumped out to a quick start in both of its matches Saturday at Tomsich Arena. Unfortunately for the Ladies, those first sets were the only two sets they won while posting identical 3-1 losses against both Hiram College and Marietta College.
Kenyon (3-9, 1-1 NCAC) took its first set of the day against Hiram, but that only seemed to anger the Terriers, who cruised through the last three sets en route to a 21-25, 25-13, 25-18, 25-15 win. Later in the day, the same thing happened. The Ladies notched a 28-26 first-set win over Marietta, only to drop the next three by scores of 25-18, 25-16, 25-14.
Throughout both matches, junior
Kaitlyn Power led the Ladies in the kills department. She racked up 12 against Hiram and then 14 more against Marietta. She connected at a .224 rate and also added 11 digs on the day. Classmate
Mary Jo Scott followed up with two-match totals of 23 kills, 11 digs, and five service aces.
Sophomore
Kaitlyn Power could not match those quantities, but she did turn in quality play by striking 16 kills with a .308 attack percentage. She also had a couple of block assists and two aces. Another sophomore,
Hannah Shank, dished out a total of 69 assists and junior
Bella Stachowski added a team-high 19 digs.
In between Kenyon's two matches, Marietta defeated Hiram 13-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-15. Hiram is now 13-4 overall and 2-0 in the NCAC. Marietta's two wins pushed the Pioneers to 12-4 overall and kept their mark at 1-0 in the OAC.
