WOOSTER, Ohio – Kenyon College got a couple more solid matches from sophomore Katie Goulder and senior Mary Jo Scott, however, their efforts alone were not enough to net the Ladies their first win of the season. The host Fighting Scots of The College of Wooster yielded one set to the Ladies, but eventually went on to notch a 3-1 victory.

Kenyon came out swinging and showed Wooster (7-16, 1-4 NCAC) it was in for a fight. The Ladies extended the first set before falling 28-26 and then took the second set by a 25-21 count. With things all square, Wooster managed to squeak out the final two sets 25-21 and 25-23 to escape with its first conference win of the season.

Goulder, who has come on strong lately, led the Kenyon women with 15 kills and a .300 hitting percentage. Over her last five matches, she racked up 52 kills. She now has 97 on the season, which is nine more than she had all of last season.

Scott followed up Goulder's attack with a dozen kills of her own. She also contributed a team-high 18 digs. Defensive specialist McKenzie Mitchell rang up 16 digs, six assists, and two service aces, while setter Hannah Shank posted 38 assists, giving her 488 for the season and 1,945 for her career. Shank also had 12 digs and Melanie Couchman added 11 more for the Ladies (0-18, 0-4 NCAC).

Kenyon's next match will be at home Saturday against Allegheny College (8-13, 1-3 NCAC).
