TERRE HAUTE, Ind. –
Sierra DeLeon led all of Kenyon College's offensive efforts at the Rose-Hulman Invitational this weekend and was rewarded for her efforts, but the Ladies volleyball team lost both of their matches on Sunday to go 0-4 on the weekend. The Ladies lost in three sets to Defiance College and host Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology to fall to 0-8 on the season.
Despite the losses, DeLeon completed the weekend series with 44 kills, averaging 3.14 kills per set, and had a kill percentage of.231 through four matches. She was named to her second consecutive all-tournament team in as many weeks after also receiving said honors at last week's Otterbein/Capital Tournament.
Defiance, who finished the tournament 4-0, defeated the Ladies in all three sets with ease by scores of 25-15, 25-10, and 25-12. DeLeon and
Kaitlyn Power had a team-high five kills but 23 errors marred Kenyon's chances at a win, resulting in a -.035 attack percentage on that day.
McKenzie Mitchell led the Ladies defensively with 16 digs.
Chelsea Ludeman led all offensive efforts with 11 kills on 26 attempts for Defiance, good for a .423 attack percentage.Kenyon provided a better challenge against host Rose-Hulman (5-6), providing two players with double-digit kill counts in the match. DeLeon continued her hitting success going 13-for-27 with five attack errors to lead the Ladies.
Katie Goulder joined her with 10 kills on 24 attempts, but the Ladies fell in three to the Engineers by a count of 25-13, 27-25, 25-22. Rose-Hulman made its statement at the net, collecting 7.0 team blocks to Kenyon's two.
Kenyon (0-8) will play its next match and first home contest on Saturday, Sept. 14 on Tomsich Arena with first service set for 2 p.m. against Muskingum University (6-3). The Ladies dropped a five-setter to the Muskies on the first day of the RHIT Tournament.
