GAMBIER, Ohio – The College of Wooster downed Kenyon College in three sets Wednesday night in a North Coast Athletic Conference volleyball match at Tomsich Arena.
Lydia Webster compiled 10 kills, three service aces, three digs, three solo blocks and two block assists to lead the Fighting Scots.
Katie Goulder totaled a team-high nine kills and added nine digs to lead Kenyon.
In the first set, Wooster jumped out to a 7-3 lead following a service ace from Rachel Bell. The Ladies battled back though and tied the match after a kill by
Hannah Shank. After that though, the Fighting Scots scored three straight points and never relinquished the lead winning 25-23.
Wooster gained a 12-7 advantage in set two following a kill by Savannah Moore. Kenyon cut that deficit as close as three points on four occasions (16-13; 17-14; 20-17; 21-18) but would never be able to get within any more. Webster registered five kills in that set.
The Ladies and Fighting Scots went back and forth in the third set before the visitors went on a 10-2 run to close the match.
Tierney McClure's kill tied the match at 15 but Kenyon wasn't able to do any more. Moore tallied four kills in the run while Kenyon aided Wooster's cause with three attack errors.
McClure tallied eight kills and seven digs for Kenyon while
Lauren Kerr chipped in with seven kills and one block assist and solo block. Shank led the match with 23 assists while
Rachael Thorson paced the Ladies with 13 digs.
Kenyon next travels to Allegheny College October 18 for a 6 p.m. NCAC match.
