GAMBIER, Ohio – The Kenyon College field hockey team logged its tenth win of the season by steamrolling the visiting Ohio Wesleyan University Battling Bishops at McBride Field on Saturday morning. During the 4-0 North Coast Athletic Conference win, the Ladies notched all of their goals on plays that developed off penalty corners.
The first goal came roughly 20 minutes into the game. A shot from the right side of the circle taken by
Julie Freedman was deflected by
Shannon Hart. The redirect found the back of the Ohio Wesleyan cage and gave Hart her fifth goal of the season. Hart and Freedman figured into the next goal, as well. A short pass from Freedman found its way to Hart on the right side of the cage. Hart then fired a pass to the left side where senior
Rachel Hall took care of the rest.
In the second half of play, the Ladies (10-2, 7-1 NCAC) doubled up their total with both goals coming from junior
Maddie Breschi. Continuing to use the penalty corner to their advantage, the Ladies saw Breschi tally goals on assists from
Sammy Johnston and from Hall.
Both Breschi and Hall now have a team-best eight goals on the season. Hall also has five assists, giving her a team-high 21 points. Breschi has three assists this season to go along with 19 points.
Overall, the Ladies outshot Ohio Wesleyan 24-15 and produced a huge 16-7 advantage in penalty corners.
The win keeps the Ladies in three-way tie for first place in the conference standings. They will, however, take a break from conference play Tuesday, when they host Washington and Jefferson College in a 4:30 p.m. non-conference contest.
