Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Gators’ streak continues with win over Ladies

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Kenyon College Ladies ran into a red-hot Allegheny College women's basketball team Wednesday night and wound up becoming a part of the Gators' streak. Despite a valiant effort, the Ladies dropped a 56-45 decision to Allegheny, which logged its seventh consecutive victory.

Kenyon, which closed to within five points late in the game, saw its own brief two-game win streak snapped. The Ladies are now 3-5 overall and 1-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference. The win pushed the Gators to 9-2 overall and 2-0 in NCAC play.

The Ladies never gained a lead in the game played at the Wise Center, but an 8-0 run that began midway through the second half pulled the Kenyon women within five points (46-41) with 6:02 left in the game. The run featured a three-point play from freshman Ifeoma Archimalo, as well as three-point field goal from sophomore Miranda Diesz.

Kenyon trailed by as many as 14 points in the second half, but buckets from Avery Anderson, Sarah Hobbs, and Bailey Dominguez set the stage for the 8-0 run. The two spurts combined, which covered a little more than eight minutes, saw the Ladies outscore the Gators 15-6.

The run ended there for Kenyon. Following an Allegheny timeout at the 4:53 mark, the Gators stormed back on to the court, scored six straight, and opened a 52-41 lead to put the game out of reach for the Ladies.

Dominguez and Sidney Cera led Kenyon with ten points apiece. Anderson contributed six points and seven rebounds, while Hobbs added six more points and five rebounds. Overall the Ladies did not shoot well, going 18-of-59 (30.5 percent) from the floor, including just 6-of-24 (25 percent) from three-point range.

Allegheny didn't fare much better. The Gators were 20-of-57 (35.1 percent) overall and 6-of-22 (27.3 percent) from long distance. They were led in the scoring department by 16 points from Jessica Mrdjenovich, 14 points from Emma Pellicano, and 11 points from Rachel Vigliotti.

The end of the game signaled a long break for Kenyon, which will not play again until it starts the two-day Music City Classic in Nashville, Tennessee on December 29.
