GAMBIER, Ohio – Jordan Herron and Travell Oakes each had double-doubles as Albion College (4-2) handed Kenyon College (3-5) a 74-58 defeat Friday night in a non-conference basketball game at Tomsich Arena.
The Britons' offense was hard to contain for the Lords as the visitors enjoyed a 36-18 points in the paint advantage and hit half (7-of-14) of its three-point attempts. Herron scored a team-high 17 and grabbed 11 rebounds while Oakes came off the bench to tally 14 points and 12 boards.
Tim Connolly and
Cooper Handelsman led Kenyon as the guard duo scored 18 and 11 points, respectively.
Jonathan Amador tallied eight points off the bench while
Dan Voigt added six.
Brien Comey corralled a team-high 11 rebounds.
The first half was extremely tight for both teams as there were four ties and three lead changes.
Connolly gave the Lords a slim 8-7 lead after his layup with 15:36 left in the half but the Britons responded. Albion went on a 9-2 run after that and took its biggest lead (16-10) following an Oakes layup with just under 12 minutes remaining.
Kenyon then responded and clawed back to tie the game at 28-28 as Connolly scored another bucket with five seconds left.
The Lords got off to a good start in the second half as
Alexander Powell hit a three-pointer and
John Bray scored from the left elbow to give Kenyon a 34-30 lead.
The two teams tussled with each other after the early Kenyon spurt and following a Comey jumper which tied the game at 39, the Britons took control. Albion reeled off the tide-turning run as Lucas Marble started an 8-0 stretch with a three-point shot to give coach Jody May's squad a lead it never relinquished.
Albion's lead ballooned to as many as 19 points in the second half.
Kenyon was held to its second-lowest shooting percentage of the season (37.7) and three-point field goal percentage (28.6) in the loss.
The Lords will close out their winter schedule with a trip to Earlham College (0-7) December 20 for a 3 p.m. contest.
Kenyon fell to the visiting Albion College Britons December 12 in the team's final home game of the winter. The Lords
couldn't find much of an offensive rhythym as they were held to 37.7% shooting, the second-lowest total of the season.
