on Friday. They ended up dropping a match to the host Crusaders, 3-1, and then another to
Baldwin Wallace University, 3-0. BEXLEY, Ohio – The Kenyon College volleyball team gave first-year head coach
Amanda Krampf an opening set victory Friday night, however, that would be the only set the Ladies would win. Despite the good start, the Kenyon women wound up falling to host Capital University, 3-1, and then to Baldwin Wallace University, 3-0.
Kenyon freshman
Lauren Kerr smacked five kills in the opening set and senior setter
Hannah Shank served up nine assists as the Ladies squeaked out a 26-24 win over Capital. The Crusaders then turned the tables and posted wins by identical 26-24 scores in sets two and four. In between those two results, the Crusaders added a 25-18 win to capture the match victory.
Kerr ended up with a five blocks and a dozen kills throughout the four sets, but was surpassed by classmate
Tierney McClure, who threw down a team-high 15 kills and complemented them with 12 digs and three blocks. Shank finished with 37 assists and 13 digs, while freshman
Rachael Thorson added 15 more digs to the Kenyon total.
The second match of the night was not as close. Baldwin Wallace took it to the young Ladies squad and closed out the night with a 25-17, 25-16, 25-14 victory.
Playing from behind against the Yellow Jackets didn't slow down McClure, who notched another nine kills and five digs. Thorson racked up another eight digs, as did Shank.
The Ladies will compete in two more matches tomorrow. They'll head to Westerville, Ohio to take on the host Cardinals from Otterbein University and then play a neutral-site match against the Case Western Reserve University Spartans.
