GAMBIER, Ohio –
Tim Connolly and
Brien Comey each scored in double figures to lead the Kenyon College Lords to a 72-69 victory over Denison University Wednesday night in a North Coast Athletic Conference basketball game.
The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Lords.
Connolly scored a team-high 18 points while Comey connected for a season-high 16 points and eight rebounds.
Jonathan Amador added 10 points off the bench while four other Lords tallied at least five points.
Denison's Brett Woolard and Robby Weingart each contributed 15 points while Briggs King chipped in with 11 points and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.
The first half was a tight affair with neither team holding a lead bigger than six points.
Darius White hit a three-pointer with 14:39 on the clock to give the Big Red their biggest lead of the half (8-4).
Comey's layup with 4:16 left in the half pushed Kenyon's lead to 29-23, its biggest margin.
After 20 minutes of play, the two teams were tied at 32.
In the second half, it was the Lords that found the game-changing run that led them to victory.
Leading 50-48 with just under 10 minutes to go, Kenyon went on a 10-2 run to take control. Connolly started the run with a jumper and Comey capped it off with a layup on an assist from
John Bray to take a 60-50 lead with 6:51 left.
Denison never recovered after that and eventually succumbed to the double-digit deficit falling 72-69.
The Lords outscored the Big Red 34-24 in the paint during the contest.
Kenyon returns to action January 17 when they host Wabash College at 3 p.m.
