WOOSTER, Ohio -- It took a while for the visiting Kenyon College Lords to get going Saturday afternoon in their men's soccer game. Once they did, there was nothing The College of Wooster Fighting Scots could do to stop them.
The No. 9-ranked Lords scored three goals in four minutes to overwhelm the Scots, 6-1, in North Coast Athletic Conference play.
The Lords (9-1-0, 2-1-0 NCAC) began their offensive push after giving up a goal in the 49th minute. Kenyon kept the ball on the attacking side and attempted three corner kicks. Finally,
Oliver Wynn took a shot on a free kick from 20 yards out at the 59:08 mark. Wooster goalkeeper Daniel Quinn deflected the ball away, but
Tony Amolo headed it back into the net for his team-leading 10th goal of the season.
The next goal came less than three minutes later.
Josh Lee passed the ball across to a wide-open
Dalton Eudy, who beat Quinn low for his third goal in 2015. The assist was Lee's first.
Before the Scots (2-9-1, 0-3-0 NCAC) could recover, the Lords scored again. Wooster's keeper stopped a shot on goal by Amolo, but
Alberto Carmona scored from 25 yards out to give Kenyon a 3-1 lead.
Soon, both teams were emptying their bench. The Lords began their next run of scoring on a pair of insurance goals in the 84th and 89th minutes by
Jordan Glassman. The two goals give Glassman three on the season.
The final goal came with just 34 seconds left in the contest.
Keven Duan fired a free kick into the box, which
Dan Scherding headed in for his first collegiate goal. The assist was also Duan's first for his Kenyon career.
Kenyon dominated throughout the match, outshooting Wooster, 22-4, while collecting 11 shots on goal. Kenyon posted a 9-4 advantage in corner kicks and
Sam Clougher had three saves in goal for the Lords.
Wooster's goal came in the 49th minute when Austin Russell fired one between the pipes in Clougher's only mistake of the afternoon. Clougher's goals against average remains at a conference-best 0.59.
The victory was Kenyon's eighth in a row over The College of Wooster. The Lords last lost to the Scots in 2007, which was Kenyon's only conference loss that season.
