HIRAM, Ohio – The Kenyon College Lords soccer team, which earlier in the day improved its position in two national polls, backed up the moves with a solid 4-1 North Coast Athletic Conference victory on the road Tuesday night at Hiram College.
Kenyon (12-1, 5-1 NCAC), winner of four straight, was powered by junior
Jordan Glassman, who came off the bench to provide the Lords with one goal and two assists, and by classmate
Tony Amolo, who had a goal and an assist.
Glassman initially entered the field of play in the game's 26th minute. He made an impact 16 minutes later, just before halftime. At that moment, Kenyon freshman
Brice Koval fired a shot that was saved by Hiram goalkeeper Matt Sacher. The rebound came to Glassman, who let his shot go, only to have a Hiram defender make the save. Again, there was a rebound and this time freshman
David Anderson buried the loose ball in the net, chalking up his first collegiate goal with the assist going to Glassman.
Glassman stayed on the field for the start of the second half and the decision paid off almost immediately. Four minutes into the second frame, Amolo found Glassman in the Hiram box. Glassman accepted Amolo's pass and registered Kenyon's second goal with a shot to the upper right corner. The goal was Glassman's fourth of the season.
Although the Lords dominated possession and outshot Hiram, 24-7, the Terriers found a way to spoil Kenyon's shutout bid. In the 61st minute, Blake Easterling broke loose on Hiram's artificial surface and, after a long pass off a restart, managed to get his shot past Kenyon keeper
Sam Clougher, who had allowed just two goals in the Lords' previous eight games.
With their lead down to one, Kenyon looked to Amolo to create more breathing room. He did so in the 71st minute by heading the ball home using assists from sophomore
Oliver Wynn and freshman
Bret Lowry. With that goal and the assist earlier in the game, Amolo now owns the team lead in goals (13), assists (5) and points (31) for the season.
With the result of the game all but finalized, Glassman struck again. This time his crossing pass into the box found the feet of classmate
Dalton Eudy, who rang up his fourth goal of the season by slipping his shot into the lower right side of the Hiram net.
The outcome solidified Kenyon's respective positions at No. 3 and No. 7 in polls released earlier today by D3Soccer.com and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
Junior Jordan Glassman registered a goal and two assists in Kenyon's 4-1 win at Hiram College on Tuesday night.
