Jordan Glassman scored the game-winning goal Wednesday night as the Lords defeated rival
Ohio Wesleyan 2-1 in NCAC action.DELAWARE, Ohio – Kenyon College (14-1, 7-1 NCAC) won a physical match against rival Ohio Wesleyan University (13-3-2, 6-1-1) by a 2-1 count Wednesday night in a North Coast Athletic Conference men's soccer match at the Jay Martin Soccer Complex.
Â
The victory, the Lords' sixth in a row, vaulted Head Coach
Chris Brown's squad to the top of the rankings in the conference and helped the team earn a crucial Great Lakes region win with the regular season winding down. Additionally, dating back to last season's NCAC Tournament title at OWU, it's the first time in recorded program history the Lords have won two matches in a row on the road against the Battling Bishops.
Â
Kenyon came right out of the gate putting pressure on the Battling Bishops with an attempt from
Jordan Glassman four minutes in.
Â
Four minutes later, the nationally-ranked Lords struck.
Josh Lee ripped a shot that hit the top crossbar and the loose ball came to standout
Tony Amolo who fired a low-liner to the left post and watch as the ball deflected in. The goal was Amolo's 15th of the year, which is best in the NCAC.
Â
The 1-0 lead didn't hold though as Ohio Wesleyan found the equalizer in the 17th minute. Kenyon's defense played a loose ball back to goalie
Sam Clougher but OWU's Neil Wilson out-ran everyone to it and squirted a shot into the middle of the net.
Â
Ohio Wesleyan had two more good opportunities to get its second goal of the half, but Clougher came up with a pair of fantastic saves to keep the score at 1-1.
Â
In the second half, Glassman delivered the go-ahead score for the Lords. Just five minutes in, the junior from Madison, Conn., retrieved a loose ball just past the midfield line and raced and fired into the back of the net.
Â
Kenyon's defense would do the rest. After the goal, the Lords allowed just one shot on goal which came in the 66th minute from Ben Farynowski. That attempt was saved though by Clougher who notched five saves on the night.
Â
Next up for the Lords is their regular-season finale against Wabash College on October 31 starting at 3 p.m. It's Senior Day for Kenyon who will honor the career of midfielder
Jeremiah Barnes.
