DePauw. The Tigers came away though with a 1-0 win in overtime to give Kenyon its first loss of 2015.GAMBIER, Ohio – DePauw University's Zach Hoffman delivered the game-winning goal in the closing seconds of the first overtime Saturday afternoon against the No. 1 Kenyon College Lords in a North Coast Athletic Conference soccer match at Mavec Field.
Â
As the clock wound down, Hoffman found himself by the left post after a throw-in and did the rest for the match's only score.
Â
The contest was a battle all afternoon long as both teams took jabs throughout the highly physical affair.
Â
Henry Myers' header a little over two minutes into the game just missed giving the Lords an early lead after it went just above the top crossbar. In the 10th minute, EJ Moore fired on goalie
Sam Clougher but the Dublin, Ireland native thwarted the attempt.
Â
DePauw had another on-goal shot in the 39th minute from Adrian Ables, but once again, Clougher got two hands on the ball and kept the scoreboard at 0. Kenyon's final attempt in the first half came from
Jeremiah Barnes in the 44th minute but Tigers goalie Chris Yount came up with the save.
Â
In the second half,
Dalton Eudy found a good look four minutes in from the right side of the box but the attempt didn't come through.
Â
Kenyon's defense tightened on DePauw in that second period and allowed just one attempt on goal. That came in the 53rd minute from Julian Gonzalez.
Â
The Lords' offense continued to find good opportunities. One came in the 67th minute as
Jordan Glassman shot from about 25 yards out and just missed a goal as the ball went just above the top crossbar. Freshman
Brice Koval added an attempt in the 80th minute but Yount, who recorded six saves on the day, stopped this attempt.
Â
The match went to overtime and saw Kenyon attempt two more shots from Barnes and Glassman before Hoffman delivered for the Tigers.
