Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Lords handle Golden Eagles, 83-71

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – Kenyon College (1-2) trailed just once against Geneva College (0-4) and earned an 83-71 victory in a non-conference men's basketball game at Metheny Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon.

The Lords were highly efficient throughout the contest as the team hit 47% of their shots and watched as seven different players scored at least seven points.

Seniors Brien Comey and Tim Connolly led the Lords' offense as they tallied 16 and 15 points, respectively. Comey also added a team-high nine rebounds and collected two steals while Connolly dished out a career-best seven assists. The Kenyon bench was superb as well as they outscored Geneva's 30-9. Defensively, the Lords limited the Golden Eagles to just 39% shooting including a 5-for-25 (20%) showing from three-point range.

In the early stages of the game, Geneva's Ethan Adamczyk scored a layup which brought the count to 2-1. But Connolly followed with a pair of free throws at the 17:04 mark and for the remainder of the contest, the Lords held the lead.

Those free throws also started an 11-0 run for Kenyon who went up 12-2 with about 14 minutes remaining after Ethan Shapiro hit a jumper.

Kenyon led by as many as 14 points (31-17) during the first half after sophomore Phillip Crampton hit a shot with just under five minutes remaining. The team from Gambier took a 41-33 lead into the break.

Second-half action saw the Golden Eagles nearly tie the game up on a few occasions.

About midway through the second period, Chaese Vaudrin scored a layup and inched Geneva closer to Kenyon (51-49). The Golden Eagles got a stop on the next Kenyon possession but couldn't convert on the other end as Vaudrin missed a shot.

Later, Vaudrin hit a pair of free throws at the 5:16 mark and brought the tally to 61-59. But again, the Golden Eagles didn't get over the hump.

Geneva got the score to within one possession just once more at the 2:41 mark (68-65), but Alexander Powell's three-pointer on the next possession sparked a 15-6 run for the Lords who eventually prevailed 83-71.

Next up for the Lords is a date with Muskingum University (2-1) Nov. 29 at home starting at 3:00 p.m.
