Kenyon runs win streak to seven after rolling Emmanuel, Mount Mary

CAPE CORAL, Fla. – Kenyon College (11-3) had no trouble defeating Emmanuel College and Mount Mary University Wednesday morning at the Cape Coral Sports Complex during the Gene Cusic Classic. The Ladies shut out the Saints 7-0 before downing the Blue Angels 6-1. The Ladies have now won seven in a row.

GAME ONE

The Ladies overwhelmed the Saints in the bottom of the second as they scored six runs.

Kenyon got all the scoring they needed in the contest as an RBI single from Madi Maldonado plated Liz Paterra. Two more runs came in for Kenyon after an Emmanuel error and later Jane Ghublikian and Lindsey Susolik added run-scoring hits. Molly O'Connor tallied the Ladies' final run during the frame when her single brought home Ghublikian.

Emmanuel was never able to get anything going during the contest as Kenyon pitcher Maddy Stark allowed just two hits. Abbey Alexiades got a single in the first and Kerrianne Vulpis added a hit in the top of the sixth.

Stark (5-2) allowed just one Saints base-runner to get into scoring position during the game. She also struck out six batters and induced nine flyouts and four groundouts.

Susolik tallied a pair of hits and drove in two to lead the Kenyon offense.

GAME TWO

Kenyon gained a 2-0 lead in the first inning as Susolik and Nicole Horita each had RBI singles.

The Blue Angels appeared ready to come back in the second inning as Katie Edwards and Payton Hintz had back-to-back hits to start the frame. But Ladies pitcher Sylvie Thomas (6-1) retired the next three MMU batters including a pair of strikeouts to end the scoring threat.

The Ladies extended their 2-0 lead with four more runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Maldonado was hit by pitch with the bases loaded allowing Paterra to score. Stark followed with a sacrifice fly to centerfield and then Ghublikian capped off the scoring with a two-run double.

Mount Mary's lone run of the game came in the sixth after a wild pitch allowed Molly Peck to score.

Thomas scattered five hits, struck out six batters and induced eight flyouts and six groundouts. Offensively, Ghublikian went 2-for-3 with two RBI while Stark and Danielle Elizarraraz each had two hits.

Kenyon wraps up its spring break trip March 12 with two more games at the Gene Cusic Classic against University of Pittsburgh at Bradford and Wentworth Institute of Technology.
