OBERLIN, Ohio – Wrapping up their North Coast Athletic Conference weekend series, the Kenyon College Lords and Oberlin College Yeomen swapped a couple of lopsided results in a Sunday doubleheader at Dill Field. The host Yeomen slapped a 16-2 game-one defeat on the Lords, who then returned the favor with a 14-4 victory in game two.
Kenyon (16-12, 6-6 NCAC) couldn't find a pitcher to stop the bleeding in game one. Junior starter
Paul Henshaw, who started the season 4-1 with a 1.67 earned run average, was roughed up for his second-straight outing. The Yeomen got to Henshaw for eight runs on eight hits and a walk within the game's first three innings.
Kenyon trotted out four other pitchers, but only
Desmond Dahlberg, who tossed one-and-a-third scoreless innings, was effective. The Oberlin offense cranked out 16 hits and scored in every inning but the first.
Meanwhile, Kenyon bats were being held in check by Oberlin starter Sean Kiley, who pitched a complete seven-inning game, allowing just five hits and two walks. Kenyon scored an unearned run in the third inning and then scored one more in the sixth when senior
Kyle Hardacker ripped his second home run of the season.
The scripts flipped in game two and a revamped Kenyon lineup battered Oberlin pitchers for 18 hits.
Max Heldman, who was slotted into the leadoff role, went 4-for-6 with a run and an RBI.
Tyler Roldan took over at designated hitter and went 4-for-5 with two doubles, two runs, and two RBI.
Phillip Nam dropped from fifth to sixth in the lineup and responded with a 3-for-5 day with a home run, two runs scored, and three RBI.
Matt Von Roemer,
Jake Dunn, and
Casey Rosenfeld all added two hits for Kenyon in game two. All but two batters had at least one hit for the Lords and every batter had at least one RBI.
The Lords bombarded the Yeomen right away, scoring five runs in the first.
John Nahra drew a walk that plated a run, Nam had an RBI single, Roldan stroked a two-run double, and
Max Warren followed up with an RBI groundout.
Nam homered in the fifth inning and sparked another five-run frame for the Lords. Von Roemer ripped an RBI single, and later in the inning Dunn tagged a bases-loaded double that scored three.
Senior pitcher
Tim Krahn enjoyed all the run support, but pitched well enough that it wasn't needed. Krahn improved to 4-2 after hurling eight innings of five-hit ball. He gave up three runs, walked two, and struck out seven. Reliever
Connor Farrell gave up one run in the ninth, but finished things off for the Lords.
Oberlin (11-16, 2-4 NCAC) used six different pitchers in game two and starter Benjamin Whitener took the loss.
Tyler Roldan took over at designated hitter in game two Sunday and went 4-for-5 with two doubles, two runs scored,
and two RBI. He helped the Lords bounce back from a 16-2 game-one loss with a 14-4 game-two victory.
