SPRINGFIELD, Ohio –
Shannon Hart and
Katelyn Hutchinson each scored twice as the Kenyon College field hockey team came away with a 5-1 North Coast Athletic Conference victory over Wittenberg University Saturday morning at Edwards-Maurer Field.
The win, Kenyon's third in a row, saw the Ladies (5-1, 3-0 NCAC) score a season-high in goals. The game also saw goalkeeper
Sarah Speroff come up with six saves to lead a steady Kenyon defense.
Scoring started for the visitors in the sixth minute. Hutchinson fired to the back of the pipes on an assist from
Minke Verweij. About three minutes later, the duo teamed up for another goal to push Kenyon's lead to 2-0.
The Tigers cut into the Ladies advantage as Blaine Donnelly scored on a pass from Paige Vanerstrom in the 14th minute.
Wittenberg's goal was the last of the first half and Kenyon took a 2-1 lead to the break.
Second-half action was a completely different story. Not only did the Ladies tally three more scores, they also shut down the Wittenberg attack.
In the 46th minute, Hart scored unassisted to push Kenyon's lead to 3-1.
After
Maddie Breschi tallied a goal in the 55th minute, Hart struck again about eight minutes later to give the Ladies their final tally.
Defensively, Kenyon limited Wittenberg to just two shots, none of which were on goal.
Kenyon will remain on the road when they pay a visit to Washington and Jefferson College tomorrow for a 1 p.m. contest. The Ladies defeated the Presidents 5-1 last season.
Sophomore Shannon Hart scored twice as Kenyon went on the road and defeated Wittenberg 5-1 Saturday.
It was the Ladies' third victory in a row.
