GAMBIER, Ohio – Senior
Jordan Glassman scored twice as the Kenyon College Lords (12-2, 5-1 NCAC) soccer team defeated Hiram College 3-1 on Wednesday afternoon in a North Coast Athletic Conference match at Mavec Field. It was the fifth straight win in the series for Kenyon who moved a win closer to qualifying for the conference tournament which is set to begin in two weeks.
As has been the case in nearly all of the team's matches this season, Kenyon showered the Hiram box with a total of 36 shots, 12 of which were on target.
It didn't take long for Kenyon to secure a 1-0 lead as Glassman scored at the 4:25 mark. Freshman
Philippe Stengel passed up the middle to his teammate and after Glassman's initial shot was saved, he collected the deflection and fired back into the net.
The Lords had three more on-goal looks before they struck again, this time from
Henry Myers. After a header from Stengel was blocked, Myers picked up the loose ball right in front of the net and scored his fourth goal of the year.
That 2-0 score remained the same for the rest of the half as Kenyon held a whopping 17-3 advantage in shots.
Second-half action saw the Lords increase their lead to three on a beautiful play to Glassman. With fellow senior
David Resnekov navigating the left end line, he chipped a pass to Glassman who headed it home to the right corner.
Hiram got on the board just three minutes later for its only score of the match as Keanu Shelton fired right around the 18-yard box into the right corner. That was one of only three on-goal attempts the Terriers got throughout the contest.
The Lords will look to win their fifth straight game when they host conference opponent Allegheny College this coming Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
