ANDERSON, Ind. – The Kenyon Ladies basketball team attained its biggest margin of victory since March 2, 1978 as they dealt Illinois Institute of Technology a 92-41 defeat on Saturday afternoon during the Anderson University Tip-Off.
Kenyon's 51-point margin of victory was its biggest since a 72-15 win against Mount Vernon Bible almost 40 years ago.
There were scorers abound for the Ladies who rebounded after being dealt a loss the day before against Marietta.
Bailey Dominguez led the way with 16 points including draining four 3-pointers.
Lane Davis came off the bench to tally 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting while
Jessica Gerber and
Paige Matijasich each registered 11. Making her first appearance for Kenyon was
Alexi Donnelly who added nine points on a perfect shooting night (4-4). In total, eight players scored at least a half-dozen points for the Ladies.
At the conclusion of the tournament,
Ifeoma Archimalo was named to the all-tourney team.
The blowout victory was sparked by Kenyon in a dominating first quarter as they outscored Illinois Tech 28-4. By the end of the period, the Ladies had shot 10-of-15 (66.6%) from the field and hit all four of their free throw attempts. Nine different players scored for Kenyon.
On the other side, the Scarlet Hawks had more turnovers (9) than they did shot attempts (7).
In the second, a Gerber three-ball halfway into the period gave Kenyon its biggest lead (42-12) as Illinois Tech only got the game to within 22 points once.
Over third- and fourth-quarter action, the Ladies continued to control the game as they outscored Illinois Tech 44-19.
By the end of the day, Kenyon shot 51.6% (33-for-64), hit nearly 43% from three-point range and connected on 14-of-20 (70%) from the foul line.
Next up for the Ladies is a date at Bethany College on November 22 at 5 p.m.
