GREENCASTLE, Ind. -- The Kenyon College women's basketball team shot just 26.5 percent from the floor as the DePauw University Tigers avenged an earlier loss this season with a 52-39 victory over the Ladies Saturday in North Coast Athletic Conference play at Neal Fieldhouse.
Kenyon won the first meeting, 60-53, on January 9. In that game, the Ladies got off to a huge start and held on to win.
There was no such hot start this time.
Saturday, the Ladies held the lead just twice early in the first quarter. A layup by
Ifeoma Archimalo followed by a free throw from
Miranda Diesz led to a 3-2 advantage. The Tigers, however, scored the next seven points and never looked back.
What further complicated things for Kenyon (15-8, 9-5 NCAC) was the Tigers' dominance on the boards. DePauw led in rebounds, 43-27, and scored exactly half of its 52 points from the paint.
The game remained close thanks to layups by
Lane Davis and
Sidney Cera, and a three-pointer by
Bailey Dominguez, but DePauw scored the final five points of the first half to go into the locker room with a 29-18 lead.
Maya Howard hit a three to give DePauw (18-6, 12-3 NCAC) its biggest lead, 40-25, late in the third quarter.
The Ladies made one final run, culminating with another Dominguez trey. This one came in the first minute of the fourth quarter to narrow the lead to six, 40-34. However, the Tigers went on an 8-0 run of their own to put the game out of reach.
Diesz led Kenyon with a career-high 15 points. Dominguez chipped in with nine points, all on three-pointers. Cera, Archimalo and Davis scored four points each, with Davis contributing a team-high seven rebounds.
Howard finished with 16 points and five rebounds for DePauw. Claire Ryan scored 11 points, while Taylor Howard had eight points and 10 boards.
The loss was Kenyon's second straight, after having dropped Wednesday's game to NCAC-leading Denison University, 39-25. With two games remaining in the regular season, the Ladies have secured the No. 3 spot in the conference standings.

Junior Miranda Diesz scored a team-high and career-high 15 points Saturday, but the rest of the
Ladies offense struggled during a 52-39 defeat at DePauw University.Â
