ADRIAN, Mich. – Ten different players scored at least one goal Wednesday evening as the Kenyon College Lords lacrosse team rolled to a 20-2 non-conference win over the host Adrian College Bulldogs. The victory put Kenyon's record at 4-1, its best five-game mark to start a season since the 2008 campaign.
Kenyon took it to the Bulldogs early.
Robert Jacobs,
Alex Lopez and
Pierce Kraft each scored two goals in the first quarter as the Lords sprinted to an 8-0 lead after the first 15 minutes of play.
Adrian managed to score once in the second quarter, but Kenyon answered with five more goals to take a 13-1 lead into halftime. The huge lead allowed Coach
Doug Misarti to dole out valuable second-half playing time to his reserves. They responded by outscoring the Bulldogs 7-1 over the final 30 minutes.
Sophomore
Jonah Florence led the Kenyon offense with four goals and two assists. Jacobs finished with three goals and two assists, while Lopez also finished with three goals. Kraft,
Chris Ferraro and
Nick Vitale each had two goals and an assist.
Andrew Weinert notched a goal and two assists and
Emilio Sosa had a goal and an assist.
Five of Kenyon's goals occurred in man-up situations. Overall, the Lords were 5-of-11 in that department, while holding Adrian scoreless in six man-up chances.
C.J. Clinkscales and
Joe Woody combined to capture a Kenyon win in 18-of-26 face-offs.
The Lords outshot the Bulldogs 43-28. Adrian did put 16 of those 23 shots on goal, but Kenyon starting keeper
Patrick Shevelson made 10 saves.
Gabriel Avis then played the final quarter between the Kenyon pipes. He made four saves and didn't allow a goal.
The Lords now turn their attention to North Coast Athletic Conference play. They'll head to Greencastle, Indiana on Saturday for their conference-opener against the DePauw University Tigers.
