GREENCASTLE, Ind. – Fresh off a victory in which the Kenyon College men's lacrosse team scored a season-high 20 goals, the Lords set the bar even higher Saturday, earning their first conference win of the season in a 21-6 rout of the host DePauw University Tigers.
A quick spurt in the first quarter gave Kenyon the early lead, one that it would never surrender. The game's first four goals were scored by the Lords in a span of just 1:16. Sophomore
Josh Galardi scored two of those goals.
Nick Vitale and
Jonah Florence scored the other two.
Galardi scored once more in the second quarter and junior
Robert Jacobs fired in two scores to give the Lords an 8-5 lead at halftime.
It was not until the third quarter that Kenyon started to pull away. The Lords scored 15 of the game's last 17 goals, including a stretch at the beginning of the second half in which they scored 10 unanswered. Nine of those ten were registered in the third quarter, matching Kenyon's season high for goals in a single period.
Galardi ended up involved in nearly half of the Lords' scoring, as he provided seven goals and three assists in a 10-point effort. That output marked a new, single-game high for points tallied by any Kenyon player this season.
Chris Ferraro, another Kenyon sophomore, notched three goals and four assists, while Jacobs matched Ferraro's hat trick and tacked on an assist for good measure.
Vitale,
Alex Lopez and
Emilio Sosa each added two goals, while Florence and
Alec Foresta scored once apiece to complete Kenyon's highest offensive output this season.
At the opposite end of the field, senior goalkeeper
Patrick Shevelson was marvelous again for the Lords, recording 16 saves in his fifth victory of the season.
Will Swain (17-for-25) and
C.J. Clinkscales (3-for-4) combined to give Kenyon a 20-to-9 advantage in face-offs. The Lords also posted big leads in groundballs (41-20) and shots (56-35)
The Lords have now won two straight and improved their records to 5-1 overall and 1-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference. They'll play again Wednesday at home in a non-conference 4 p.m. contest against Otterbein University.
Sophomore Josh Galardi rang up seven goals and three assists Saturday to
power the Lords lacrosse team to a 21-6 win at DePauw University.
