GAMBIER, Ohio – The Kenyon College Lords lacrosse team took care of business Saturday in its matchup with the Wabash College Little Giants, improving its record to 7-2 with a 24-6 victory. The Lords had eleven players find the back of the net, while all four goalkeepers got work in front of the net.
Kenyon scored nine goals in the first quarter and seven goals in the second quarter while not surrendering a goal during the first half of the contest. Senior goalkeeper
Patrick Shevelson got the start and went untested in one quarter of work.
Gabriel Avis played the next two quarters, made three saves and gave up three goals.
The pace slowed in the second half, but Kenyon did manage to score six more times in the third quarter before chewing clock in the final frame.
Freshman midfielder and faceoff specialist
Will Swain went 21-for-27 on his opportunities in the faceoff circle. Wabash did not win their first faceoff until the 6:36 mark of the second quarter, allowing Kenyon to build their comfortable advantage.
The specialty units for Kenyon controlled the extra-man opportunities on both sides of the field. Defensively, Kenyon surrendered just one goal in eight opportunities while a man down. On the other end, Kenyon scored four out of five chances with an extra attacker.
Prior to the game, Kenyon ranked seventh among all NCAA Division III teams in man-up up offense (.500) and ranked 11
th in scoring offense (14.25 gpg). After the game, those numbers moved to .526 and 15.33, respectively.
Sophomore midfielder
Rob Guldenschuh played a big role in boosting those offensive numbers as he matched his season total from all of last year with a five-goal effort against Wabash. Fellow sophomore midfielder
Chris Ferraro matched his season-high with seven points, dropping in four goals with three assists.
Kenyon's midfielders combined for 21 of the 24 goals scored. Senior midfielder
C.J. Clinkscales registered four goals and an assist while sophomore midfielder
Pierce Kraft added a hat trick.
Next up for the Lords is a Tuesday trip to The College of Wooster to battle with the Fighting Scots in a conference contest slated for 7 p.m.
