Gators take bite out of Kenyon

GAMBIER, Ohio – The Kenyon Lords baseball team was dealt an 8-2 defeat by Allegheny College on Saturday in North Coast Athletic Conference East Division game at McCloskey Field. Game two was called in the top of the seventh with the Gators holding a commanding 13-3 lead. That contest will be finished tomorrow with a start time no earlier than 12 p.m.
 
Allegheny had a slim 3-2 lead before pulling away with five combined runs in the final two frames during the opener.
 
Leading up to that point, the visitors got a run on the scoreboard in the first when Joe Killian connected with a sacrifice fly to centerfield.
 
Kenyon followed that up with a two-run second inning. The first four batters for the Lords reached with singles and they got the tying run when Phillip Nam sent a shot to left center plating Alec Manning. A few batters later, John Nahra flied out to left field allowing Jackson Celestin to reach home.
 
The Lords collected just three more hits the rest of the way though and watched as Gators pitcher Chase Boyer struck out seven Kenyon batters.
 
Allegheny retook the lead in the fourth as Jacob Shick and Patrick Orr each had run-scoring hits.
 
Ahead 3-2 and getting outstanding pitching from Boyer, the Gators pulled away at the end. In the sixth, Cullen Flaherty hit a two-run double and Ethan Pawlak added a run-scoring two-bagger as well to push the visitors' lead to 6-2. Then in the seventh, Shick drove in two with a single to left field.
 
Four different Gators recorded multiple hits in the win while Boyer (5-1) tossed a complete game with nine strikeouts.
 
There were seven different Lords that got hits on the day.
 
Weather permitting, the two teams will finish up game two tomorrow before playing another doubleheader.

The Lords fell 8-2 in the opener against Allegheny on Saturday at McCloskey Field. Game two was called in the top of
the seventh due to rain with the Gators leading 13-3. That contest will be completed tomorrow
before the two teams try to play another NCAC East Division doubleheader.
