SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – Centre College outscored the Kenyon College field hockey team 5-1 in the second half en route to a 7-1 win over the Ladies on Saturday afternoon. The six-goal differential was the biggest margin of loss in head coach
Jacque DeMarco's tenure at Kenyon.
About nine minutes into the first half, the Colonels and Ladies had just one shot on goal. Centre's Caroline Brotzge attempted a shot which was saved by sophomore midfielder
Hannah Paterakis while Ladies junior
Shannon Hart fired at the 8:28 mark but was denied by Kirby Roberts.
The scoreless tie was finally broken at the 18:42 mark. A penalty corner for Centre came to Kathryn Hardesty who fired into the back of the pipes giving the Colonels a1-0 lead.
About 10 minutes later, Centre got what turned out to be the game-winning goal as Hayley Barker scored.
Down 2-0 at half, Kenyon wasn't able to get back into the affair. The Colonels opened second-half action with four straight goals capped off by Barker's third of the day at 51:17.
Kenyon finally got on the board with 15 minutes to play as junior
Weezie Foster tallied her second goal of the season.
Centre out-shot Kenyon 13-6, with 12 of those shots on goal.
The Ladies will try and rebound when they travel to The College of Wooster on September 7 for the team's North Coast Athletic Conference opener.
Weezie Foster tallied the Ladies' only goal on Saturday as Centre defeated Kenyon 7-1 in a match played
at Wittenberg University. The Ladies will next play at Wooster September 7 to open NCAC play.
