HIRAM, Ohio – Kenyon Lords freshman
Gabe Ivins scored with less than 15 minutes left as the Lords got by Hiram College 1-0 on Saturday night in a North Coast Athletic Conference match. The victory was Kenyon's sixth in a row and it improved the team's overall mark to 10-2-2 and kept the team in first place in the NCAC with a 5-0 record.
After a loose-ball deflection came to Ivins near the right side of the 18-yard box, he fired a shot to the right post and watched as it got by Terriers keeper CJ Keith.
Kenyon found 15 shots during the night, 11 of which were on goal. On the other end, the Lords' defense turned in another solid outing holding Hiram's offense to just three shots with none coming on-goal at keeper
Ian McInturf.
In the first half, solid shot attempts did not seem to make their way to the Lords who had just four attempts in the first 40 minutes. By the end of the half, though, Kenyon got a little better traction as
Keven Duan,
Max Taylor and
Collyn Carpenter all fired on net with Keith notching three saves.
The Lords added four more attempts in the second half before their 13th attempt – Ivins' shot – broke the scoreless tie.
Hiram's best chance at the equalizer came from Giovanni Meza but his shot with three minutes left went above the crossbar.
Next up for the Lords is a date at Ohio Wesleyan University on October 17 at 7 p.m. It will be a battle for first place in the conference with the Battling Bishops – coming off a 4-0 win against Wabash College – sitting right behind the Lords in the standings.
Forward Gabe Ivins provided the Lords the game-winning goal at Hiram on Saturday lifting Kenyon
