DePauw downs Kenyon during Dig Pink match

GAMBIER, Ohio – DePauw University's Suzanne Peters and Morgan Stearley each tallied a match-high 13 kills on Saturday as the Tigers defeated Kenyon College in three sets in North Coast Athletic Conference action at Tomsich Arena.

It was the Tigers' seventh straight win which pushed their record to 14-5 and 5-0 in NCAC play. For Kenyon, it was its fifth loss in the last seven contests and dropped the team to 12-9 and 2-3 in conference play.

The Tigers opened the match in dominant fashion as they scored seven of the first eight points with Stearley registering a kill to end a 7-1 run. Later, DePauw got a service ace from Stearley to move ahead 11-2. Kenyon battled a bit after that as kills from Maleah Miller and Mackenzie Bruzzio brought the count to 13-7 but the Tigers followed with four straight points to go up ten, 17-7. They later won 25-18 while hitting a marvelous .514 as a team.

Competition was much closer in the second stanza. The Ladies led 5-3 after consecutive attack errors from DePauw. A bit later, first-year Carly Uhlir dialed up a service ace to move the home team in front by four, 10-6. That four-point lead was erased, though, by the Tigers who tied the set at 13 after a kill from Peters. Things went back and forth after that before the score was knotted up again at 19. This time, DePauw hung in to score six of the next eight points and win 25-21.

In the third, DePauw led 4-0 before the Ladies scored the next four capped off by a block assist from Delaney Swanson and Schuyler Stupica. The score remained close – no team had more than a three-point lead – until a mini-spurt from the Tigers around the midway point. Leading 15-13 after a Stupica kill, DePauw scored three of the next four to go up 18-14. The Ladies got to within a pair of points later – 21-19 and 23-21 – but weren't able to get over that hump.

Swanson and Bruzzio tallied seven kills for Kenyon while Jensen Shurbert dished out 20 assists. Senior Ashley Martens paced the defense with nine digs.

Kenyon will try and snap a three-game losing streak on October 17 when they travel to The College of Wooster for a 7 p.m. match.
