GAMBIER, Ohio – The Kenyon Lords saw nine different players score goals on Saturday as the team took out some offensive frustration on the Wittenberg University Tigers at Mavec Field winning 10-0 in both team's North Coast Athletic Conference opener. Heading into the contest, the Lords had out-shot their last three opponents by a combined 72-32 but only found three goals.
On this day, though, the Lords' offensive attack broke through scoring 10. That mark, which was just two off from the all-time single-game team record of 12, was the most goals since 1981 against Baldwin Wallace University.
Kenyon started hot right out of the gate as sophomore
John Penas got a through ball and dribbled past Tigers goalie Jack Snider for the shot.
At the ninth minute,
Brice Koval crossed a ball from the left side and watched as
Oliver Wynn did the rest with a header attempt.
By the 24th minute, the Lords found two more goals from
Henry Myers. Assisting on those were Koval and junior
Greg McNeer.
The remainder of the first half saw Kenyon extend its lead to 7-0.
David Anderson,
Gabe Ivins and
David Kim also scored for the Kenyon who out-shot Witt 12-0 in the first stanza.
Nothing changed in the second half as Kenyon found three more goals.
Will Bennett scored his first goal of the season after a pass from
Max Taylor about five minutes into the half. Later, first-year players
Tanner Jordi and
Jack Cohen tallied goals. It was both players' first career goals.
By match's end, the Lords had out-shot the Tigers 32-1 and a 10-1 advantage in corners.
Next up for the Lords is a home date against Cast Western Reserve University on September 26 at 4:30 p.m. Last season, the Spartans handed the Lords a 1-0 loss in overtime.
Will Bennett tallied a goal and an assist as the Lords absolutely rolled Wittenberg on Saturday by a 10-0 score.
In all, nine different players scored for Kenyon who improved to 5-2-2 on the season.
