GAMBIER, Ohio – Earlham College (1-2) outscored the Kenyon College Lords 20-8 in the final eight minutes of the second half to earn a 69-59 non-conference victory at Tomsich Arena on Monday night. Kenyon dropped its record to 0-4, its first since the 2007-08 campaign.
 
Matt Shifrin led the Lords with a game-high 17 points and added six rebounds and three steals. Also in double-figures was Carter Powell who contributed 12 points and six boards. Konrad Christian chipped in with nine points and eight rebounds while Kamal Aubakirov scored eight and collected four steals.
 
As a team, Kenyon struggled as it shot 32.9 percent from the field and a mere 20 percent (5-of-25) from three. The Lords did not help themselves at the foul line either hitting 57.1 percent (8-of-14).
 
Kenyon got off to a good start as it secured an 8-2 lead about two minutes in after back-to-back makes from Ryan O'Neil. That advantage was ballooned to as many as seven points on several occasions with the last coming at 7:28. At that point, Shifrin canned a jumper in the paint and pushed the home team up 22-15.
 
The Quakers never allowed the deficit to get bigger after that, and they fought back to take a halftime lead. An and-one conversion by Elijah Galloway with one second left capped off a 14-6 run and moved the scoreboard to 29-28, Earlham.
 
In the second half, the lead changed hands six times within an 11:26 span.  The last, a top-of-the-arc three-ball from Aubakirov at 8:34, moved Kenyon back up 51-49.
 
Earlham quickly responded with buckets on its next three possessions and went back in front 55-51. With 4:43 left, Shifrin's two free throws moved the Lords to within three, 57-54; however, a 6-0 run pushed the visitors ahead for good.
 
The Lords will now break for Thanksgiving and return in a week when they host Westminster College (Pa.) at 7 p.m.
