Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Galardi, Lords dismantle Presidents

WASHINGTON, Penn. - In a snowy season opener on Saturday, the Kenyon men's lacrosse team held Washington and Jefferson College scoreless for three-and-a-half quarters. On the way to a dominant 18-1 road win, the Lords (1-0, 0-0 NCAC) launched 56 shots to the Presidents' (0-1) 13.

Senior Josh Galardi and junior Emilio Sosa led the Kenyon campaign, securing five goals apiece. Galardi also collected four assists and six ground balls, both game highs. Additionally, Chris Ferraro, Pierce Kraft and Nick Vitale each chipped in two goals. On the other side of the pitch, sophomore Ben Ward scored WJC's lone goal of the game.

The Lords dictated the match from the opening face-off. In the first half, they forced eight turnovers and pelted the Presidents' frame with 34 shots. Kraft drew first blood less than five minutes into the first quarter, the first of nine goals Kenyon would score before halftime. The Presidents, on the other hand, came up empty, managing just five shots and no goals in the first half.

After halftime, the Lords continued to overwhelm the Presidents' defense. Kenyon racked up another six goals in the third quarter, four of them from Sosa. Kenyon scored once more in the fourth quarter before Ward notched WJC's first and only goal of the game with six minutes remaining. In goal, Reed Levesque tallied four saves for the Lords.

Kenyon's aggressive play on both sides of the ball secured the Lords their opening day victory. The Lords also out-hustled the Presidents for 50-50 balls: Kenyon scooped up 33 ground balls to WJC's 17, and the Lords won 13 of the day's 21 face-offs.

The Lords remain on the road for their next game, a February 20 matchup with Ohio Northern University (0-0). That game is scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
