GAMBIER, Ohio – The Kenyon College men's lacrosse team exerted its dominance over the Wabash College Little Giants on Sunday afternoon, earning a 25-2 victory in the first North Coast Athletic Conference game of the season. Fourteen different Lords scored at least one goal and half of them found the back of the net multiple times.
Kenyon's offense started quickly, scoring two goals in the first two minutes. After a near eight-minute drought, the Lords offense then added a flurry of five goals in the final 5:39 of the first frame.
Emilio Sosa scored three of those first seven Kenyon goals, while
Nick Vitale collected a goal and two helpers. In that first quarter alone, Kenyon outshot Wabash 20-3, including 11-0 in shots on goal. The defense forced 13 Wabash turnovers and won the ground ball battle 18-9.
The second period was more of the same, as Kenyon outshot Wabash 18-2 en route to an 8-0 scoring advantage.
Pierce Kraft and
Josh Galardi each stood out with two goals and an assist. Vitale added another goal and an assist, as well.
Once the third quarter opened with 15-0 showing on the scoreboard, Kenyon turned to its reserves to continue the production. They answered the call and added another seven goals, while allowing just one. Throughout the quarter,
Jack Snow stood out with two goals and an assist, while Galardi scored another on the man advantage.
Kenyon scored three more in the fourth quarter, including Sosa's game-high fourth of the contest.
In sum, Kenyon recorded an assist on 19 of its 25 goals to collect 44 points. Vitale led the way with seven points, adding four assists to his three goals. Six Lords registered four-point games: Sosa, Kraft, Galardi, Snow,
Sam Humphrey and
Will Robbins.
Matt Pollack had three points on three goals, while
Sam Hatfield tallied three more points on a goal and two assists.
Goalkeeper
Nick Connelly earned the victory making one save in the first half.
Reed Levesque and
Matt Pantalon each played a quarter in the second half and allowed one goal. The Lords won the faceoff advantage 20-8, while posting a plus-13 in the turnover department.
Steven Stark and Tucker Dixon were the only goal scorers for Wabash. Goalkeeper Max Atkins recorded seven saves in the first half for the Little Giants and Blake Markett recorded five in the second half.
No. 17-ranked Roanoke College is Kenyon's next opponent as the two will face-off in a non-conference tilt on Tuesday. Kenyon will resume conference play on the road against DePauw University on Saturday, March 17.
