GRANVILLE, Ohio – Eleventh-ranked Denison University (12-3, 6-1 NCAC) saw eight of its players score multiple goals as it defeated Kenyon College (8-5, 4-3 NCAC) by a score of 25-1 on Wednesday night in a North Coast Athletic Conference men's lacrosse game at Piper Stadium.
Early in the first, Kenyon nearly scored the first goal of the game as
Joe Woody's attempt hit the post at the 13:32 mark. After that, the Lord found three more on-goal attempts, including two from
Nick Vitale, however, Denison goalie Reeves McKenney denied them.
On the other side, the Big Red converted their attempts and ended the first quarter with a 7-0 lead. Owen Armstrong and Spencer Butler each tallied two goals to lead Denison.
By halftime, that advantage had swelled to 18-0 as Butler added three more goals to pace the way offensively. Kenyon did add a few more shots on goal in the second, but again, nothing came through against McKenney.
As a team, Denison out-shot Kenyon 30-10 and used a 16-4 face-off advantage to control possession. The home team also snagged 27 ground balls compared to Kenyon's 11.
Denison continued adding to its lead in the third and fourth quarters and brought the tally to 25-0. The Lords were able to break through for their only goal of the game with under six minutes left as
Matt Pollack found the back of the net. It was the freshman's sixth goal of the year.
Kenyon will close its regular season on April 21 when it hosts conference opponent Hiram College at McBride Field at 11 a.m. It will be Senior Day for the Lords.
