MARIETTA, Ohio – The Kenyon College volleyball team kept its record unblemished after two more wins Saturday, the second and final day of the Marietta College River City Classic. The Ladies first whipped up a quick 3-0 win over Emory & Henry College and followed up later in the day with a 3-0 win over the host Pioneers.
Although it's still very early in the season, Kenyon's 4-0 start is its first since 1988.
In the morning match against Emory & Henry, the Ladies posted set scores of 25-12, 25-15, 25-17. Junior
Haley Witschey threw down eight kills, as did senior
Delaney Swanson. Sophomore
Elyse Davidson added five kills and four blocks, while her classmate
Meghan Cason served up 25 assists.
The Ladies hit at a .292 clip and peppered Emory & Henry with a dozen aces.
In the afternoon match with host Marietta, Kenyon carved out a winning score of 25-18, 25-19, 25-18. The Ladies' attack percentage jumped to .327 against the Pioneers, who saw Swanson rack up a team-high 14 kills. Junior
Mackenzie Bruzzio added 13 kills and both
Maleah Miller and Witschey scored six kills with just one error. Cason assisted on 42 of the Ladies' 43 kills.
For the day, Bruzzio managed to put together a stat line that included 18 kills, a team-high 22 digs and four aces. Swanson's two-match totals included a team-best 22 kills and 16 digs. Cason added 19 digs to her 60 assists, while freshman
Katie Howard added 20 digs.
The Ladies, who now have a .285 attack percentage through four matches, return home to host the two-day Kenyon Invitational. That event will get underway Friday with a 6 pm contest against Mount Saint Joseph University.
