Lords win NCAC opener at Wittenberg

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – No. 8 Kenyon College (7-0-1, 1-0 NCAC) earned a 5-1 road victory at Wittenberg University on Friday night in a North Coast Athletic Conference men's soccer match at Edwards-Maurer Field. It was the eleventh straight win in the series for Kenyon.

The Lords and Tigers (4-5, 0-1 NCAC) played for about eight minutes before lightning struck, causing around a 40-minute delay. Once the two squads returned to the field, Kenyon quickly started working against a Wittenberg defense that stacked the defensive zone.

In the game's 16th minute, Kenyon struck. After Greg McNeer's corner kick from the right side was cleared out by the defense, David Kim took the loose ball and rocketed a low-liner into the right corner. That was the senior's first goal of the season.

Exactly four minutes later, the Lords doubled their lead. As Kim dashed down the right sideline, he crossed a pass into the middle of the box and watched as captain David Anderson finished it off. It was Anderson's fifth goal of the season, the most on the team.

That 2-0 advantage remained until the 68th minute. Will Bennett continued his stellar senior season with a pass from the right sideline to freshman Scott Upton who scored his third goal of the year. Nearly three minutes later, Anderson scored again as he cleaned up a Gunner Found saved shot attempt near the left post.

For good measure, first-year midfielder Tomas Munoz Reyes scored with one second left for the final tally. Kenyon outshot Wittenberg 22-3 and held an 11-2 corner kicks advantage.

Next on the schedule for the undefeated Lords is a trip to Case Western Reserve University (6-1) on September 26 at 7:30 p.m.
