GAMBIER, Ohio – The No. 16-ranked Kenyon College men's soccer team cruised to a 3-0 victory Saturday at Mavec Field. The shutout win over the visiting Wittenberg University Tigers ran the Lords' win streak to nine and improved the team's records to 10-1 overall and 2-0 in North Coast Athletic Conference play.
In addition to extending the win streak, the victory was Kenyon's sixth shutout of the season, lowering the team's goals against average to 0.71. The team's defense was so dominant Saturday that it yielded just four shots to the Tigers. Junior goalkeeper
Ian McInturf only saw one of those shots on goal and he steered it aside.
On the other end of the field, the Lords blitzed the Wittenberg defense with 33 shots. Thirteen of those were on goal. Sophomore
Sebastian Gaese came off the bench to account for five shots with two of them resulting in goals.
In the game's 26th minute, Gaese collected a crossing pass from classmate
Luke Muther and then buried it into the Wittenberg twine. Just about four minutes after that goal, Kenyon scored again. This time, it was on a long-range shot from freshman
Mac Nardiello-Smith. It was his fourth goal of the year and gave the Lords a 2-0 cushion at halftime.
About 15 minutes into the second half, Gaese struck again. Taking a pass from senior
Gunner Found on the left side, Gaese headed the ball over the line for his third goal of the season and the first multi-goal game of his Kenyon career.
Wittenberg, which has taken the loss in five of its last six games, fell to 3-9 overall and 0-2 in the NCAC.
