Lords to face Oberlin in NCAC semifinal

GAMBIER, Ohio – For the second time in a week, the Kenyon College men's soccer team will square off against Oberlin College, this time in a North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament semifinal match. Postseason action starts on Wednesday, November 6 at 2 p.m. at Mavec Field.

This matchup is the fourth all-time game in the tournament with Kenyon owning a 3-0 record over Oberlin.

Kenyon (15-1-2, 7-0-2 NCAC) is making its eighth-straight appearance in the league's four-team tournament. It earned the NCAC regular-season title and No. 1 seed after posting another unbeaten conference mark.  The No. 9-ranked Lords have gone unbeaten in 34 straight NCAC regular-season matches dating back to October 1, 2016.

Oberlin (8-10, 5-4 NCAC) enters as the four-seed after upsetting Wabash College 1-0 on November 2. This is the Yeomen's first appearance in the NCAC Tournament since 2016 when they lost to Kenyon 2-1 in the final.

A week ago, Kenyon had no trouble with the Yeomen, winning 5-1. Five different Lords scored goals as the team controlled the match, owning a 30-11 shot advantage and 17-1 corner-kick lead.

Leading the offensive charge for Kenyon is freshman Atli Hrafnkelsson. He has scored seven times while Sam Carson has added six. Of the team's 51 goals, newcomers and sophomores have scored 35. Kenyon also ranks 22nd in the nation averaging 2.83 goals per game.

Defensively, Kenyon is 29th in Division III with a .696 goals against average mark. Junior goalie Ian McInturf is 14-1-2 this season with a 0.71 GAA, a mark that is second in the NCAC.

On the other bench, Oberlin's Nic Jandeleit is tied for third in the conference with eight goals. One of those came against Kenyon last week. Ben Kessler and Jack McMillin have also aided Oberlin, scoring four times each. While three Yeomen goalies have played in seven matches, expect Fiachra McDonagh to patrol the net on Wednesday. He is 4-3 this year while posting a 2.36 GAA and .696 save percentage.

As mandated by the league office, tickets for Wednesday's match are $7 for adults and $3 for children (18 and under). NCAC students with a valid institution ID will be admitted free of charge.

Live video and statistics will be provided for tomorrow's contest.
