Lords’ attack springs team to road victory

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – There were five different Kenyon College men's lacrosse players that registered four points during Saturday's 15-8 North Coast Athletic Conference victory at Wittenberg University. The victory boosted Kenyon's record to 6-4 while evening its NCAC mark to 1-1.

Matt Pollack scored a game-high four goals while Sam Humphrey and Joe Woody each tallied three goals and one assist. Seniors Nick Vitale and Emilio Sosa got into the mix as they each contributed a pair of goals and helpers.

Kenyon got off on the right foot as it scored six of the game's first seven goals and led 6-1 at the 13:15 mark of the second. Woody contributed three of those goals to lead the Kenyon charge.

The Tigers responded with a trio of goals within a 1:49 span. Down 6-1, Wittenberg started its mini-spurt with a goal from Andrew Ellis. Just a little over a minute later, Sam Camacho found the back of the cage on a pass from Lucas Klever. Wittenberg's push ended at the 9:09 mark of the second as Klever scored unassisted and moved the tally to 6-4, Kenyon.

Despite that sequence, the Lords never surrendered the lead and began the game-clinching run over the next 30-plus minutes of action.

With 6:28 left until halftime, Humphrey fed Sosa for Kenyon's seventh goal. The Lords extended their 7-4 advantage with two more goals from Vitale and Pollack and took a 9-4 lead into the locker room.

After the break, the visitors tallied the only three goals of the third, including two from Pollack to extend the lead to 12. In the same period, goalie David Metzger notched five saves to keep the Tigers from getting closer. By game's end, he had tallied 15 saves.

Kenyon's game-clinching stretch came with two more goals in the fourth from Vitale and Humphrey. With just under 10 minutes left, the Lords had built an insurmountable 14-4 advantage.
