Senior Day goes Lords way versus Tigers

GAMBIER, Ohio - Four separate players scored at least three goals for the Kenyon College Lords as they beat the DePauw University Tigers 15-9 in a North Coast Athletic Conference lacrosse matchup at McBride Field on Saturday.

The victory improved the team's record to 8-5 and 3-2 in the NCAC.

Matt Pollack led the way with a game-high four goals, and it marked the ninth time this season he had scored multiple times. Junior Sam Humphrey and seniors Joe Woody and Emilio Sosa scored three of their own while fourth-year Nick Vitale tallied five assists. Those helpers bumped his season total to 43, surpassing the Kenyon single-season record of 42 set by Dave Cronin in 1973.

Early in the first period, DePauw's Patrick Durnien tied the game at 2-2 before the Lords went on a 7-4 run to end the half. The stretch started as Kenyon scored four-straight with the team's sixth goal coming to Pollack.

The Tigers followed with two of their own as Nate Greenberg and Lewis Andrews each scored on man-up opportunities. Despite their four-goal lead being cut in half, the Lords scored three more times and by halftime, led 9-6.

After the break, the Tigers did have a 21-11 shots advantage; however, goalie David Metzger continued his strong play as he came up with 10 saves. By game's end, Metzger had registered 17 stops.

Additionally, senior Patrick Coughlin led the defense with eight ground-ball pickups, while the rest of the Lords helped cause 11 DePauw turnovers.

Kenyon will look to stay above .500 in the NCAC when they play at Oberlin College on April 17 at 7pm.

Before the game, the Lords honored their nine seniors: Sosa, Woody, Vitale, Coughlin, Ben Bassett, Michael Harris, Reed Levesque, Will Swain and Ben Erjavac.
