Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Kenyon tops Oberlin, Misarti reaches milestone

OBERLIN, Ohio – The Kenyon College men's lacrosse team defeated Oberlin College 15-8 Wednesday night and improved its overall season record to 9-5. With two more regular-season games on the schedule, that win total matches the Lords' final output (9-6) from last season.

The win was also the 100th career win for Kenyon head coach Doug Misarti. Since taking over the reins at Kenyon in 2008, Misarti has an overall coaching record of 100-76.

Although the final score indicated the Lords were in control, the outcome really wasn't decided until the third quarter. Kenyon did jump out to a great start with three straight goals from Emilio Sosa, Joe Woody and Patrick Coughlin, but over the next 10 minutes of play, Oberlin rattled off four straight, including two by Michael Muldoon, to take a 4-3 lead at the 8:07 mark of the second quarter.

A little more than a minute later, the Lords got a goal from Matt Pollack and that sparked a Kenyon run that that blew the game open. Including Pollack's tally, the Lords scored 10 straight times, taking an 8-4 lead at the half and a 12-4 lead into the fourth quarter.

Sophomore Will Harrigan scored four times and assisted on one other goal during the run. His five-point night matched Nick Vitale's and held up as the team's best. Four of Vitale's five points came on assists, increasing his Kenyon single-season record to 47. Woody, a senior, scored twice during the run and finished the game with four goals, while Pollack tacked on two more scores and finished with three for the Lords, who improved to 4-2 within North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) competition.

While the Kenyon offense was clicking, the defense absolutely dismantled Oberlin during the game-changing run. In that span, the Yeomen turned the ball over 14 times, missed six shots and had two other shots saved by Kenyon goalie David Metzger, who finished the night with eight saves.

Kenyon currently sits third in the NCAC standings and has conference games at Wabash College on Saturday and then home against The College of Wooster on Tuesday. The top four teams in the final NCAC standings gain spots in the conference's postseason tournament.
