MARIETTA, Ohio – There were some tense second-half moments, but the Kenyon College men's soccer team earned its fifth straight win on Wednesday night after a 2-0 victory against Marietta College. The Lords improved their record to 6-1 with the decision.
Marietta had a good start, attempting two on-target attempts within the first 27 minutes of action. Lords keeper
Ian McInturf, though, denied those attempts from Dave Beattie and Gabe Haines. After that, Kenyon's defense locked down the Pioneers' attack and took the lead.
With less than eight minutes to go until halftime, freshman defender
Sebastian Brylka sent a through ball along the left side.
Sam Carson picked up the ball, raced into the goalie's box and fired into the right corner.
After the halftime break, Marietta reset and nearly tied the match on a few occasions. In the 53rd minute, Robert Phillips fired from around the top of the 18, but his attempt went just high. Three minutes later, Jovonni Auddino had a great look from the right side; however, McInturf was there to meet the shot.
Marietta's final good look came in the 70th minute. A cross came to a wide-open Phillips but Lords defender
Sam Hosmer-Quint stopped his attempt right in front of the goal mouth.
Kenyon added one more goal at the 85:28 mark.
Aidan Schoellkopf's shot from the right side was saved and the loose ball was picked up by
Mac Nardiello-Smith who finished by the left post.
Next on the schedule for the Lords is a home match against NAIA Thomas More University on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
