UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – John Carroll University earned its second top-ten win in as many days on Tuesday night as the Blue Streaks handed the No. 10 Kenyon College Lords a 3-2 loss.
JCU remained unbeaten (3-0) while the Lords evened their record at 1-1.
First-half action brought limited opportunities for each offense. Kenyon attempted just two shots through the first half-hour of play while the home squad generated four shots, two of which were saved by Lords goalie
Ian McInturf.
The scoreless tie was then broken in the 33rd minute. Freshman
Mac Nardiello-Smith scored his first career goal at that time and gave the Lords the lead. That advantage remained until halftime.
In the second stanza, Blue Streaks junior William Turrittin tied things up. At the 59:36 mark, JCU's midfielder scored his third goal of the year. It did not take Kenyon much longer to regain the lead.
A little over six minutes later,
Jack Cohen scored off a pass from
Drew Parker, pushing the Lords' lead to 3-2. Like before, though, the Lords could not hold their advantage. Turrittin fed Matt Nigro for another tying goal, this time with nearly 22 minutes left in the match.
John Carroll would add one more to complete the comeback. With 76:20 on the clock, Michael Burrington found Jarrod McDowell for the go-ahead and final goal. After that, the Lords were unable to find a shot.
The three goals allowed by Kenyon marked just the second time in the last 64 regular-season matches that the Lords surrendered that many goals.
Kenyon will look to bounce back on Friday, September 6, when it hosts Colorado College at 5 p.m.
