Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Lords move to 3-0 with win at Sewanee

SEWANEE, Tenn. – With Sunday's 16-5 victory over the Sewanee Tigers, the Kenyon College men's lacrosse team opened its season, for the second straight time, with a perfect 3-0 record.

The Lords fired in the first five goals of the game at Hardee-McGee Field and never looked back. Junior Will Robbins logged three of those five goals, including one in a man-up situation. Senior Sam Humphrey and junior Matt Pollack accounted for the other two Kenyon goals during that early run, which led to a 5-2 Lords' lead after one quarter of play.

Those same three players lead the way for Kenyon throughout the game. Humphrey finished with a game-high six points on five goals and an assist. Pollack contributed four goals and an assist, while Robbins finished with three goals and an assist.

Pollack scored his second goal in the second quarter and Joe Bolea tacked on another, giving the Lords a 7-2 cushion at intermission. Sewanee managed a dozen shots in the second quarter, but Kenyon goalkeeper David Metzger saved three of them. Kenyon defenders blocked three more and the other six were off the mark.

In the third quarter, Pollack tallied his third goal off an assist from Humphrey, who then scored the Lords' next two goals. Before the quarter ended, Will Harrigan used a feed from Robbins to give the Lords an 11-3 advantage.

Sewanee (1-4) closed out the third quarter with a goal and then opened the fourth with one more. Kenyon retaliated with five straight goals over the final seven minutes of play to seal the deal. Humphrey had two of those five and Pollack had one.

In all, the Lords, who are averaging 58 shots per contest, outshot the Tigers 55-38. The Lords also held distinct advantages in groundballs (31-16) and in face-offs won (17-8).  Reed Russell, a junior, did all the face-off work for Kenyon. After winning 68 percent Sunday, his season average climbed to 67 percent.

Metzger finished with 13 saves and the Lords converted 12-of-14 clear attempts.

Kenyon gets right back to work with a trip to Baldwin Wallace University for a non-conference contest on Wednesday.
