Ladies fall twice at Gene Cusic Classic

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- For the first time this season, the Kenyon Ladies were swept in a doubleheader. Rochester Institute of Technology won 4-3 against Kenyon before SUNY Oneonta claimed a 10-4 victory against the Ladies.

GAME ONE

RIT scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh to claim a 4-3 win in the opener.

Leading up to that, Tigers pitcher Torie Adler and Ladies slinger Nicole Bishay did well, keeping each team scoreless through three.

Kenyon did have a chance to break the scoreless tie in the top of the third. But a fielder's choice was picked up at third and the throw home got Bella Albrecht out.

Then in the fourth, the Tigers scored three, which included a two-run double by Brianna Bilich.

That score remained the same until Kenyon scored in the fifth. With Clare McMahon and Albrecht on the base paths, Grace Finn singled to score one.

Then in the seventh frame, the Ladies tied things up. Emily Buckwalter singled and plated two, McMahon and Finn. Kenyon had two more at-bats, but could not bring home Sara Campagna and Buckwalter.

RIT closed the game in the bottom of the seventh. After an infield error placed two on base, Haley Czerwinski singled to score Samm Carroll.

GAME TWO

Oneonta plated five runs, all it needed, in the first inning during a 10-4 win.

The Red Dragons started the game with three singles. Their fifth at-bat from Meaghan Raleigh then plated a run as she singled to left field. A couple batters later, Marissa Nagel added a two-run single to right center field pushing the score to 4-0. Oneonta followed with one more run-scoring hit from Amanda Sexton.

Kenyon responded to make it a 6-4 game.

After Campagna scored on an error in the bottom of the first, the Ladies tallied three more in the second.

The Ladies brought the score to 6-2 after a Campagna RBI single. Fellow classmate Emily Pater then entered the batter's box and connected with a it to center. That plated Finn and Campagna.

For the purple and white, though, they could not get any closer.

Oneonta scored once more in the fourth and fifth frames, before plating two in the seventh. By game's end they had collected 17 hits.

From the third through seventh frames, the Ladies could only muster two runners in scoring position.

Tomorrow, Kenyon will wrap up its Spring Break schedule with contests against Rockford University and Anna Maria College at North Collier Regional Park in Naples.
