FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Kenyon College softball team continued its best start to the season with an 10-2 win over SUNY Delhi and 22-4 smothering of Lehman College on Saturday at the Gene Cusic Classic. Kenyon improved to 10-0 with the victories.

GAME ONE

A seven-run first inning helped the Ladies get all the run support needed in a 10-2 victory over the Broncos. Kenyon was also aided by five errors in that frame.

The Ladies' scoring started as
Sara Campagna's shot to left field was misplayed, and
Grace Finn rounded all the way home from first. Junior
Emily Buckwalter followed with an RBI single to push the lead to 2-0.

Five batters later,
Kassie Rimel's single to center field was over-pursued by the Broncos' outfielder, plating two more.
Bella Albrecht and Finn then closed the 7-0 inning with a single and triple, respectively, scoring two more.

SUNY Delhi did crack into Kenyon's lead with a two-run single by Kayla Beers in the home half of the first. However, pitcher
Sophia Gottdiener (2-0) allowed just one more hit after that. Over the next four innings, Gottdiener induced nine combined popouts and groundouts.

Kenyon added three more runs in the third for its final tally. A pair of errors scored Rimel and Finn while Albrecht stole home. By game's end, Albrecht went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.

GAME TWO

Kenyon's bats pelted Lehman's defense with a single-game record 19 RBI. That bested two previous occasions during the 2007 and 2009 seasons when the team tallied 17. In addition, the 22 runs scored were the second-highest total topped only by 25 runs against Oberlin College on April 7, 2001.

The Ladies wasted no time in getting ahead as they plated 11 runs in the first. They sent 15 batters to the plate that inning and watched as
Jesse Leener drove in two runs. Kenyon also got run-scoring hits from Albrecht,
Persy Hort and Buckwalter.

By games' end, five different players recorded multiple hits with
Paige Milhon,
Julia Holton and Hort each collecting three. Additionally,
Madde Hyland, Leener and Holton each drove in three runs.

In the circle,
Tori Rogers earned the win by tossing five innings, striking out two and inducing a combined 11 groundouts and flyouts.

Tomorrow, the Ladies will face Wilmington College at 1 p.m. followed by the United States Coast Guard Academy at 3 p.m.
