Lords fall to Little Giants at home

Box Score GAMBIER, Ohio -- The Kenyon College football team fell to the Wabash College Little Giants 59-34 Saturday afternoon. The Lords kept the game close through the first half but couldn't keep up with the Wabash offense in the second half.

The Kenyon defense looked to have a stop on the opening drive of the game, but a Lords penalty gave the Little Giants a fresh set of downs. Wabash continued their march down the field when Liam Thompson punched it in for a 7-0 lead. The Lords responded with a seven play, 66-yard drive capped off by a 30-yard touchdown run by Sean Goodman. On their next drive, Thompson ran in for his second touchdown of the game to put Wabash up 14-7. After a Kenyon punt, the Little Giants stretched their lead to 21-7 after Thompson found Jackson Clayborne for a touchdown pass.

On their first drive of the second quarter, A.J. Allen connected with Andrew Schnarre for a 33-yard pass to set up first and goal at the Wabash one-yard line. On the next play, Allen took it himself to cut the lead to 21-14. The Lords defense forced a stop on third down to set up a Wabash punt. Kenyon started their drive from their own 28-yard line. After a short run, Allen found Finn Murray for a 21-yard reception, but a Wabash targeting penalty tacked on 15 more yards to the end of the play. On fourth down, Allen placed a perfectly thrown ball to Andrew Schnarre for another Kenyon touchdown. After the kickoff, Wabash regained the lead when Thompson found Derek Allen for a 75-yard touchdown. The Lords marched down the field for another touchdown to tie the game at 28. Before the half, Thompson scrambled outside the pocket and kept it himself for his third rushing touchdown of the game. Wabash carried their 35-28 lead into half time.

The third quarter started as a defensive battle after the first half became an offensive show. On the opening drive, the Little Giant defense gave their offense a short field to work with after they intercepted A.J. Allen. The Lords defense forced a fumble inside the 5-yard line to take the ball right back. After Wabash forced a Kenyon punt, the Lords defense pressured Thompson into an intentional grounding penalty. On fourth and seven, the Little Giants converted a 40-yard field goal to take a 10 point lead. After the field goal, Allen finished off the next Lords drive as he scampered into the endzone for another touchdown. The Wabash offense traveled the field in four plays to take a 45-34 lead into the fourth quarter.

In the fourth quarter, the Kenyon offense tried to get back into the game but could not get past the Little Giant defense. Wabash went on to score two more touchdowns in the game.

The Lords look to bounce back on the road next week as they travel to take on Ohio Wesleyan.
