Ladies, Tigers face off in spring competition

GAMBIER, Ohio -- DePauw University and Kenyon College met at Tomsich Arena on Sunday morning with the Tigers winning in four sets, 25-12, 26-24, 22-25 and 25-13.

It was the first match for coach Rosanna Sguerra whose Ladies team played for the first time since November 9, 2019.

Kenyon senior Elyse Davidson led with 11 kills while Macy Reimbold and first-year Natalia Arrigoni combined for 16 kills and 25 digs. Additionally, Katie Howard recorded a match-high 16 digs, Maya Sapsford handed out a team-high 23 assists and Tara Ford contributed seven kills.

In the opening set, DePauw used a 7-0 run to balloon its lead to 17-6 en route to a 25-12 victory. The Tigers hit .333 in the first while holding Kenyon to a -0.167 attack percentage which included 11 errors.

The Ladies nearly tied the match score in the second. Trailing 17-13, Kenyon tallied nine straight points, which included two kills each from Davidson and Arrigoni. That pushed the purple and white's advantage to 22-17. However, Kenyon found just two more points after that as DePauw out-paced Kenyon by a 9-2 margin, winning the second 26-24.

Third-set action saw Kenyon continue to play well. After an early tussle and the score tied at 13, the Ladies scored four of the next five points with two kills by newcomer Lindsey Abramson to gain a 17-14 lead. The home squad maintained that lead the rest of the way before closing things out, 25-22, with a block assist from Ford and Abramson.

Competition was tight again in the fourth as another block assist from Ford and Abramson had Kenyon down 11-10. But after that point, the Tigers scored seven of the next eight points to seize command, 18-11. Elise Monroe had three kills in that stretch and it helped lead the visitors to a 25-13 fourth-set and match victory.
